When it became common for people to work in offices, all offices looked alike. The office furniture was generally a solid oak desk, an upright chair and two chairs for guests. There may also have been a coat and hat rack in the corner. Brown was the dominant color, although the walls may have been a greenish color. Offices were not a place to express your personality. Work was a serious business and it occupied a separate place in your life from your personal existence.

Organization has many useful benefits, and that is no secret. As a whole, people who are organized are generally more productive and relaxed. To be a better worker, having your office or home desk organized will be helpful.
Clearing everything off of the desk is the first step in getting the space organized. Starting with a clean slate and visualizing everything that the space was storing is important. Printers, computers, and other large items can remain but everything else should be cleared off. In this process, you will find things that don’t belong but have migrated to you work space. Move these items back to their original locations or find new spots for them.
Next you should thoroughly clean your work station. After the top has been cleared off, wipe it down with a damp cloth. Dump out all of the drawers and throw away the small pieces of paper and bits of trash that have accumulated at the bottom.
